There's still plenty of snow on the ground, but it was so warm in the sun. Today totally shook my winter drowsiness.

I can't wait to break out my spring wardrobe and finally go outside and...

Heehee no, this isn't a talking project bag - it's me, Marshmallow!

Sorry I've been so scarce lately, I don't do well during the winter with all of the snow and cold. I generally find a quiet, warm and preferably fuzzy place to hide and nap. Fortunately everyone is usually busy enough to not notice my absence!

I must say, this project bag is very comfortable. It's much like a hammock, but cozier! I don't suppose people would fit it in very well though.

You'll probably see more of me when it's warmer and greener out. For now, maybe just give me a gentle swinging push?

I mean seriously, Dizzy's been gone for over a month and I think it's high time for new branding. He's having lots of fun anyway - eating delicious food, getting massages and attending sports events. How do we know he's even coming back? I doubt I would.

All I'm saying is if he's going to be out living it up for the next several months while I am handling all of the responsibilities here, whose name should be on the top of the page?

I think I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions, it's more interesting that way. I am after all, Dizzy, Sheep of Mystery.

I will tell you my stay in Everett was really fun! I never knew hockey was so exciting and I enjoy checking out fresh dyed yarn. I was considering putting in some highlights, but unfortunately my flat, non wooly composition seems to dislike moisture of any kind. I better talk to Fred and see what we can do about that.

I never thought much about hockey, but then I was taken to a game during my visit to Everett and wow is it exciting! The Silvertips shut out the Cougars!

Honestly I can barely follow the puck, it flies around so fast. I don't know how the players maneuver so well on the ice either, ice skating is definitely not my forte.

But I had this great idea - it hit me while I was lounging around on a pile of yarn watching the big Winter Olympics game.

What if we changed hockey to be a bit more fuzzy, and called it fuzky!

Wait, hear me out... The way it would work is each team has a yarn stash where the goals are and the other team is trying to skate in and take skeins from their stash. It's kind of the opposite from hockey, you're trying to keep the skeins in your goal.

It gets even better, the players get to wear really big fuzzy sweaters to soften up those crunching impacts a bit more.

Oh it would be so fun! Yarn flying everywhere, players getting tangled up and trying their best to grab the favorite yarn from the other teams stash...

I can tell, you think I'm crazy. Just wait though, in four years when fuzky is the big game at the next Winter Olympics, you won't think I'm crazy then! How do I call the Olympics to suggest my idea?

Massaging Work Benefits

I always knew that massages were a good thing. Most people will agree with me, that getting your tense muscles worked is a very relaxing and good feeling.

Not only does it feel good, but I've recently discovered the critical importance of relieving tension on joints, improving circulation and stimulating the lymphatic system, all of which are promoted by massage. And all of these things are so vital, that I truly believe I can no longer work without regular, ahem-daily, massages.

Hey, my two new friends Shaun the Sheep and Farley agree with me! They're lucky to live near a place that specializes in four legged massages. I honestly fear for my health, back home in massage-less East Rochester. BaaAAaa is me...

Ok that came out a bit dramatic, I imagine you probably just rolled your eyes. Maybe I'm getting a little spoiled by my wonderful host families. Is that so wrong though?

Shiny Space Person wants to hear more about my travels, isn't that right shiny space person? Yes, they have space people in Tacoma. I'm actually in Everett, Washington now, but I'm a few days behind on my updates.

Shiny Space Person and I do want to congratulate all of Team Dizzy on your Ravelympic achievements! I hope you all had fun and I really wanted to throw together a big celebration event for today, but it's kind of hard when I'm on the other side of the country and the "head coach" is claiming all of the victory.

Anyway, everyone on Team Dizzy will be getting a little something special in the not too distant shiny future...

The Final Lap

This is it, the last day of the Ravelympics!

It's been a long couple of weeks. The highs and excitement of starting out, team members posting pictures of their beautiful work, the satisfaction of completed rows and many knitters reaching the finish line.

And of course, as with any great event, there have also been a few lows - the dropped stitches, ripping out rows and distractions throwing off the game of some of our star knitters.

But it is important to remember that we are a team! We all set out together and we're all great in our achievements.

Let's also not forget that I, your champion head coach, am the one who really lead you all to victory. And I know you'll all finish by 11:59pm tonight and make me proud.

Or Alpaca will eat your shoes.

Snow Day

I'm happy to report Dizzy Sheep Offices survived.

We're snowed up pretty good though. Despite our best shoveling efforts, there's only so much we can do because there's just nowhere to put it all.

And me - I'm fine with it!

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. Crazy snow storm, giant snowman - it's just snow. We gargoyles are a tough bunch and silly things like frozen water don't bother us. In fact, it's kind of nice when everything is frozen and just slows down.

You know, this is a great opportunity to finish your Ravelympic projects! What better excuse than being snowed in. You can also use knitting for such a good cause to get out of shoveling...

Of course those of you who already finished better get outside and get to work. I guess sometimes it pays to procrastinate.

Breaking News - Snowmagedon!

We interrupt Dizzy in Tacoma Washington to bring you a breaking news event...

Nameless Alpaca here with a winter weather advisory.

A large snow storm that some have referred to as "Snowmagedon" is turning the North East into a giant frosty pile of "give up, you can't possibly shovel fast enough" and is heading straight for Dizzy Sheep Offices! Experts predict somewhere between 3 and 17 inches of snow with 40 MPH winds.

These same experts also assure us that this is perfectly normal end of February weather, but some believe we have finally pushed Mother Nature over the edge and like a child being sent to bed without dessert, we won't be seeing Spring.

Still others claim this isn't normal weather or Mother Nature at all, but the work of a giant snowman who has lost his hat and scarf and is heading here to raid our yarn storage room for replacements. I wouldn't believe such a silly idea myself, except our live radar map clearly shows a giant... snowman...

WAIT! That thing is heading here?! But we're snowed in and can't leave! Aaaahh we're doomed!!!

Just a quick update - I arrived in Tacoma, Washington yesterday after a long ride in the mail system. I'm very happy to be out and about again!

I'm also very happy to read about your fabulous Valentine Bag of Knit loot. I'm a little upset I couldn't be involved in the order fulfillment, declaring myself Packaging Commander and sneaking even more goodies into bags.

Though hmm, last time I did that I got demoted to mopping the floors.

Office Boredom

I admit it, I miss Dizzy a little bit. He's always getting into trouble, but it made things in the office a lot more interesting! Now it's Monday and everyone is hard at work and being productive.

Not that being productive is a bad thing - it's just not the same without always wondering if you're going to suddenly become the victim of a crazy prank or having to drop everything and evacuate the building until the Fire Department arrives.

I find myself checking my email a lot and getting excited when there's a new message.

Hmm, that's really not very exciting at all. Unless it were an email saying I won something, then I'd be excited. Usually it's just spam.

The Halfway Pep Talk

We're halfway through the Ravelympics.

But what does halfway mean? Should you be halfway done with your project at the halfway point, having done exactly half of it and have exactly half of it left?

Well if that were true then all of you who are already done have made a mistake, start ripping rows out!

Hahah just kidding. Everyone who is done is dismissed and gets a gold star.

The rest of you... you can still get a gold star too. You just need to remember that you aren't just a knitter, you're a Team Dizzy knitter! You didn't need the whole time to finish your project, you subconSciously factored in a fair amount of procrastination and goofing off because you know you work better under pressure. You're like the runner who makes the comeback in the final lap. You can finish and you know it, because you don't want to wear a half finished unraveling sweater or hat around!

Alaska Part 2-2

Alaska, land of great people, snow and a quaint little yarn shop way up north. In fact, judging from its name I think it's probably the farthest north yarn shop in existence! It was nice to visit and almost felt like the shop back home. They wouldn't let me in the yarn storage room though.

And then we went - BaaAAaa! Avalanche!

Just kidding. You can just make me out in the second picture in a large pile of snow. I'm not sure why I'm sharing this picture, it's just snow like almost everywhere else has right now. Maybe because the mother and baby moose ran off before we got a picture or maybe because I could make a "Where's Flat Dizzy" game where I just hide in anything white.

Hmm, perhaps the real reason is my brain is just frozen.

Alaska has been so much fun and everyone here has been so nice to me! Thank you for taking me on all of these great adventures!

Alaska Part 2-1

My adventures in Alaska continued last week, but I decided to wait until after all of the Valentine Love settled down before sharing the details. I had a great time and did a tour of Anchorage!

We went to a dog sled race and I have to say, dog teams are cool.

Honestly, we need to get one of these teams in the Dizzy Sheep shipping department. Maybe another one in sales - we'll stock the vending machine with dog biscuits. They work so well together and they're so... motivated! Hmm, clover flavored dog biscuits...

Dog sleds seem like a really fun way to travel too. Especially coming from the frosty snow land of Upstate New York where most means of travel become terribly ineffective during the winter. Like walking. I was examining one of the sleds and trying to decide if I could strap a team of gargoyles to it. What do you think, would Fred make a good sled-goyle?

I know, you're asking yourself "what happened to Fred yesterday?"

Well, it's none of your business!

But I'm going to tell you because I'm sure you're all assuming I went on some crazy Mardi Gras adventure. See, even with Dizzy away on his travels we still occasionally experience technical dizziculties with our server because Dizzy managed to mess up the system so much! Just remember that before you let him check his email on your computer.

So there was a story and it was quite good, but then who knows what happened to it at midnight. Not me for sure, I was already on my way to New Orleans. For... business!

Anyway, if you don't already know, Ravelry is a large online knitting discussion board and is home of the Dizzy Sheep Groupies, which are a fantastic group of people. They have formed Team Dizzy in the Ravelympics and although I would have been happier with "Team Fred", I've decided to still be the head coach and help motivate everyone in their projects...

Fred's Missing Mardi Gras story

Losing a DS

I just discovered an interesting fact.

After asking around, tearing my room apart and even looking through the entire office for my Nintendo DS, I discover it is actually somewhere in Alaska. With Dizzy.

I tried calling the post office and asked about losing a package. They kept trying to direct me to the lost package department several times before understanding that I hadn't lost a package, I was trying to lose a package. Then they weren't sure they could help me, something about being in transit, location, ethics, etc.

I suppose that's for the best because I'd probably never see my DS again. Though there's still a good chance I won't!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

That's right, you're stuck with me, crotchety old Fred for now. Alpaca is preparing some silly poem he's going to read at noon for his special Valentine.

It's fine that you all think I'm grouchy and anti-Valentine. I... I didn't want to give you this card anyway!

Yeah, I made you all a Valentine. What of it?

You know, I'll share something with you that I've never told anyone before. A long, long time ago back in gargoyle elementary school, which is way cooler than normal school, we all made little Valentine boxes in class. The next day everyone was supposed to bring in those silly little cards and put them in the boxes.

Guess how many Valentines were in my box? One. One card. And it wasn't even for me, someone accidentally put it in the wrong box!

That's why I was joking around with the paper shredder the other day.

Anyway, I made you this card. You probably don't want it, and that's fine by me. But it is definitely the only time you'll ever see me with little hearts and yarn around me signed "heart Fred" at the bottom!

Envelope Blues

This is the only strange part of traveling really... the traveling part. It's a little concerning having no idea where you are at any particular time. What's seatac, is it fun?

Maybe it would help if I had a window - or if I were traveling via a cruise ship. Hmm that's going to be the next trip, Unflat Normal Dizzy takes everyone on a special cruise!

I guess a window wouldn't really help. I'd only be able to report things like "hey, I'm in a bag with a bunch of envelopes!" Not really that helpful I suppose.

Heart of Granite

What am I doing? What does it look like I'm doing... I'm making a Valentine mailbox.

We all know what Sunday is, and someone had the bright idea that we should exchange Valentine cards. So of course that means we need to make silly little mailboxes to put the cards in, like they do in elementary school. Usually they're made with paper bags, but I've decided to be a little more high tech and use a paper shredder.

Needless to say I'm not interested in Valentine's Day, chalky heart candy with lame messages or silly cards. I can only imagine the deep and meaningful message Alpaca is going to give me. It will probably be along the lines of "Dear Fred, will you be my Valentine?"

Then I respond...

"No."

Alaska Part 2

My adventures in Alaska were grand indeed!

I've never seen a musk ox before, reindeer up close and the Alaskan scenery is very pretty!

We also ran into Santa, who must have been vacationing in sunny Alaska from his extra frosty home in the North Pole. I know it's only February, but I took the opportunity to make sure that I'm still in good standing on the "Nice List" so far for the year.

Santa checked the list, got a funny look and then said not to worry because the naughty list simply isn't big enough to accomodate the number of incidents I rack up. Apparently he gave up tracking me a long time ago. I'm not sure if I should be relieved or more concerned...

I then asked him if I could take the sleigh for a spin, but he said he had to leave and get to his facial and beard trim appointment.

Later I discovered that some cats like me and some cats think I'm a delicious treat. As you can see in the picture above, Belle and I got along just fine and were quite happy playing with the electrical outlet like we weren't supposed to.

However Gabby, not pictured, gave me a little love bite on my head, totally unprovoked!

Ok fine, maybe I was eyeing the cat food dish wondering if cat food comes in clover flavor. Maybe Gabby gave me fair warning and I scoffed proclaiming I am a Jedi Sheep with training from Qui-Gon-Quinn, the Grandmaster Ninja Matrix Cat. Maybe I got what was coming to me. Though Fred never bites me in the head...

Anyway, I had a great time in Alaska, including the camera shy brother. Thank you!

One is Less Than Seventy...

Ahh, seventy degrees is so nice and cozy!

At least I think it's 70 degrees in here... I'm not quite sure how to read this fancy device. FRI doesn't sound like a temperature, it's probably not 923 degrees, 2 divided by 5 divided by 10 doesn't make any sense, I don't see any clouds with snow on the ceiling, and I know it's not 1!

I mean it's probably 1 outside, you know, in the mailbox. With the bills and junk mail.

BaaAAaa!! Just picking on my Alaskan friends. There was a little delay in making it out of the mailbox - I was starting to get worried that my envelope had been lost somewhere. Then I was rescued and we all had a wonderful time!

Don't worry, I'm a hearty sheep. In fact, the cold doesn't bother me at all! As you can see I was even working on my tan. By the window. Inside. Hey, it was a little cooler by the window.

Sports Update

Nameless Alpaca here with your sports news update!

What an exciting game last night, New Orleans won the Super Bowl and certainly made some amazing plays to make that happen. All I can say is wow. I don't really follow football and am not even sure how it's played, but as far as I can tell last night's game was like scoring a Bag of Knit during a Spin Off!

The onside kick after half time was like clicking the "I want it" button before the Bag of Knit is even on the deal page. You're already on the order screen with possession of the bags in your cart!

Then that big two point conversion was similar to the risk of checking out with PayPal, you're never quite sure how long it will take to process and oh - PayPal comes back with an error! But then you contest the call by hitting refresh on your browser and it goes through!

Finally you click confirm just in time, snatching the last of the bags before someone else, like the interception in the fourth quarter! Score! The bags are yours - you win!

Whew! Buying yarn is at least, if not more, exciting than football!

It has come to my attention after my... excitement yesterday that perhaps Jury Duty is not as... commanding of a position as I had hoped.

Honestly, what is the deal with a panel of jurors that have to come to some agreement? How can I be a Gargoyle Overlord if there's a bunch of people in on the decision?

If you ask me, that's far too lenient. I would arrive at a fine verdict by myself.

Well ain't that a pile of gravel...

Apparently I'm being summoned for Jury Duty. I wasn't aware they were interested in gargoyle jurors. All I can say is... woohoo!

Finally I get to decide the fate of some poor individual and it's legitimate, even upheld by the law. It's like my dream come true! You know, that dream where I'm gargoyle overlord of all the land and cupcakes start falling out of the sky? I'm sure I've mentioned it before...

This is great, I'm actually required to be excused from work and they'll even pay me!

I can just picture it now, jurors are the ones who sit in the front of the room with the robes and little hammer right? I, Grandmaster Overlord Gargoyle, find you guilty of being too fuzzy!! Hahahah!

Not so Sunny Destination

Hmm-hmm-hmmm, off to sunny Californ-ia!

Hmm-hmm-hmmm, sure feels cold outside this packing en-velope!

Hmmm.... wait a second, I was looking at the March schedule. I'm heading to - Alaska?? BAAA-haaa-haaa as if back home it wasn't cold enough! This must have been Fred's doing, sending me to the frozen north in February.

Well, I've always wanted to go to Alaska and I hear it's beautiful. Who cares if it's like negative... a lot. I suppose I'll need an extra wool coat or two. And maybe lots of hot clover soup. Ooo and a hot tub!

Jedi's can be Ballerina's too...

Last week while I was in Chicago, I began my Jedi training and was immediately handed a light saber and thrown into ballet competition! It's a little known fact that all good Jedi's are also good ballerinas. How do you expect to master the Force if you can't pirouette?

My ballet skills may not be far above "hopelessly clumsy" but honestly wearing a tutu isn't so bad. Let's just forget about that picture though and not bring it up at some embarrassing moment in the future...or give it to Fred.

The library was fun and there were no mischievous or otherwise incidents of any kind. Preschool was great too, I think I was already voted Best Sheep of the class! There were no mischievous or otherwise incidents there either. I was just quietly reading books and taking notes the whole time. The whole time... you don't look convinced - why aren't my Jedi Mind Tricks working?? Maybe I need to be wearing the Jedi tutu.

I also got to stay home, play Wii, eat junk food, rummage through yarn and lay around on my very comfortable custom made bed on Friday night while everyone else went out. Honestly... does it get any better than that? Back home they won't even let me in the same room as the Wii after, umm, yeah never mind!

I had a wonderful time and so much fun, thank you for letting me stay with you!

Questions and Answers

Hello! I have a few minutes before I go to bed, so I thought I'd check in and answer a few questions that came up during my visit to Chicago...

A very sharp nine year old asked me how old I am, because if I'm not 16, then I shouldn't be on Facebook. And you know, I probably shouldn't be on Facebook, though not because of my age - more because of my knack for getting in trouble.

The truth is no one really knows how old I am. See, sheep years are kind of like dog years, only sheep years change depending on diet and lifestyle. Due to my high clover intake and mischievous nature, it's estimated that I'm about one hundred and fifty two. But it's good for a sheep to be so old, our wool ages like fine wine and we become wise and knowledgeable.

It was also asked if I have liability insurance, this question coming up after a visit to a library and something about remuneration. Let me just formally state that I have no idea what remuneration is and as far as insurance - you break me, you buy me, and I'm not cheap! We're talking about me being insured right? I also formally deny that I may have cause any wrong doing in any libraries and in fact, I can't even read so why would I have been there at all.

Finally, there was some concern over Alpaca not signing my special travelling book. He was at the going away party so I guess someone will just have to ask him why he didn't. As far as I know, we're not having a fight, though we prefer to say "we're having a frizzy"... alright, I'm the only one who likes to say that, but come on, it's catchy!

Six Days of Wool

Well, the prediction is in. Winter lovers can rejoice and those who were hoping for an early Spring... well if you live in upstate New York you're just crazy if you thought Spring would come in six weeks anyway.

I of course already knew Phil would see his shadow...
